How do I prevent authorized access to my virtual event?

The Zoom team is constantly working on enhancing and improving security in order to keep their platform safe and prevent unauthorized people from joining meetings and webinars. This is relevant to the FooEvents Zoom meetings and webinars integration as event organizers should rightfully be concerned about how to prevent unauthorized access to their virtual events and to prevent people from sharing ticket details and passwords with others.

Zoom only allows you to be signed into one computer, tablet, and phone at a time. If a user signs into an additional device while they are logged into another device of the same type, they will be logged out automatically on the first device. This reduces the risk of someone sharing their Zoom account with others and using it to access your virtual event.

Here are a few other ways that you can prevent an unauthorized party from accessing your virtual event, even if they have a legitimate Zoom link that may have been shared by a FooEvents ticket purchaser:

If your virtual event is setup as a Zoom meeting, you can have greater control over who joins your virtual event by enabling the Zoom waiting room feature which allows administrators or hosts to admit attendees one-by-one before they are allowed to join your meeting or webinar or hold all attendees in the waiting room and admit them all at once. You can manually check the attendee’s credentials in the waiting room against a list or use the FooEvents Express Check-in plugin or the free FooEvents Check-ins apps to quickly check them in as you normally would at a physical event. Once all your attendees have joined, you can lock the meeting so that no new participants will be allowed to join, thus reducing the risk of unauthorized access.

If your virtual event is setup as a Zoom webinar, you should rather make use of the webinar practice session functionality which is the webinar equivalent of the waiting room. You can also customize the registration process for webinars, such as approving attendees, enabling email notifications for registrations, and adding registration questions.
